Mr. Mickelson was a Freshman at Columbine High School when this tragic event happened on April 20th, 1999 & running late to school that day, I noticed that on the RNN, rebel news network, it had said “You shouldn’t be here today” “This was the only weird thing out of a normal day at school, I remember I went to the mall that day during my off period before lunch hoping my mom was not at work because right where she worked was across from the food court and he didn’t want to get embarrassed by her.
As the day unfolded, he moved into the cafeteria at lunch I met up with my freshmen friends and we dropped our backpacks off at the table, went through the lunch line, and then sat back down at our table. Then that is when it all got started and Mr. Sanders told us to get down
As the chaos unfolded, one teacher, Mr Sanders, stepped up to help people. “ Mr. Sanders is my Hero and the hero of hundreds of CHS because Mr.Sanders made sure “all of the students got out of the cafeteria” “The shooting lasted for 40 minutes, a million thoughts went through my head while the shooters were getting closer.” I started thinking about how I should sit.
Eventually, the police entered the building telling us, “put our hands on our heads and not look down no matter what we see.” Later we found out the shooters shot themselves. A few days later we were able to go back into the school and I remembered my backpack was in the cafeteria when I went to grab it was melted from a bomb that was placed nearby.“
Despite the horrific events, Mr Mickelson believes that it united students in the school,
“After this happened it kinda brought us all together and high school was great after that, we all respected each other and were always kind to one another.”
