As the 2024-2025 basketball season reaches its midway point, the Arvada Boys Basketball team finds themselves at a challenging crossroads.
With an 1-11 record, the team has faced numerous hurdles that have tested both their skills on the court and as a unit.
Despite the struggles, the players continue to show unwavering commitment and grit, never allowing their struggles to lower their spirits.
Off struggles
The team has struggled to find consistent scoring throughout the season.
Arvada has faced difficulty executing their offensive sets, often seeing possessions fall apart due to turnovers and missed opportunities.
Junior guard Deymian Than said, We aren’t a bad team, we just don’t have the chemistry yet on offence.
Despite the challenges, the players have shown flashes of brilliance, especially from the perimeter, where they’ve occasionally hit big shots.
However, these moments have been sporadic, and maintaining offensive flow for an entire game remains elusive.
Def struggles
on the defensive side, Arvada has faced challenges in limiting opponents’ offensive sets.
Teams have often exploited defensive lapses, with turnovers and poor communication leading to easy baskets.
Sophomore forward Teo Robinson said, “we need to play more as a team and have each others backs.”
Although the team shows signs of effort, particularly on the fast break, defensive consistency continues to be a major issue.
The team has yet to string together a full 32 minutes of solid defense, which has resulted in several blowouts and close losses.
Deymian continues to show flashes of excellence on offence and defense, constantly hitting big shots from the perimeter, and making big plays on defense.
Freshman guard Ozias Garrett plays a huge role on the team his his consistent ability to get to the paint and knock down clutch shots
Teo excels in his paint offence and mid range shots and the team can always rely on him if they need a clutch bucket.
