JV and Volleyball have had a good season for Arvada High School.
JV coach Delaney McCutcheon is also a beginner in coaching volleyball. She said, “I think I have done well coaching this year. Not just in teaching girls how to play volleyball, but we as a team have grown so much that our JV is the future of volleyball since our Varsity is full of seniors. So I am excited to see what they do in the next few years.”
Elyssa Murrow (9th) said, “I think the team overall did a great job, I think the whole team learned a lot.” Elyssa being one of many players wanted to know how to contribute.” I tried to follow the coach as well as I could and help anyone I could. We all tried.”
Mrs. McCutcheon tried to take from her experiences for how she should coach “I played volleyball and I took a lot of things that I felt helped me grow as a volleyball player from past experiences on the player’s side, and I leaned on Ben a lot for support.”
One thing McCutcheon was thankful for was the players under her coaching. “Many girls are so friendly and just want to have a good time. I mean they love volleyball so that was a good motivation. It’s fun to watch them become friends with each other when they don’t know each other at the start of the year.”
When It came to goals for the year McCutcheon was sure of hers. “As a coach, my personal goal was to win a few games, which we did. For the players, my biggest goal was really to learn one skill well. All of them learned how to serve which is a big one.”
Mrs McCutcheon knew she was still beginning to coach just like JV was beginning to play.
”This season was a huge learning experience, like on how to be a coach, and what helps students so I felt like overall we had a really good season in terms of coaching, and players.”
