Arvada High School is making progress in helping students achieve goals after High School.
Thanks to a generous $50,000 grant from the Pat Surtain Organization, the school will be
Starting a Patient Care Tech certification program as part of a new Career Pathway.
Starting next year this exciting opportunity gives students the chance to graduate with skills.
Many different certifications which can make them more easy to hire.
The idea for the program came about somewhat unexpectedly.
When interviewed about how the initiative got started, Mr. Feeney, a key faculty member involved in organizing the program, explained.
“We kind of fell into it. They reached out to us. It was the second year they helped out schools. Last year they helped out two DPS schools.”
The effect that this program could have on students at Arvada High School, Mr. Feeney pursued the opportunity and ultimately secured the necessary funding to bring this Career.
Pathway to Life the grant, combined with donations of medical equipment from local hospitals, provided the school with everything it needed to help start the program.
With all this different equipment it can be way better than just sitting in front of a screen and learning about it.
Students will have an opportunity to be able to have hands-on experience which will help them when they do get a job they will already have experience in the medical field.
There are students who may not really want to go to college after High School.
This program can help them get a job right after high school if they do get their certification.
When all the medical equipment got donated 9 news came in to make a story of their own about the equipment from the hospital.
Mr. Feeney and some students went out to present on why they should receive the funding and it all went well and they ended up receiving it.
Thanks to the Pat Surtains foundation, and Mr. Feeney they gave the students at Arvada High an opportunity to enter the Medical Field.
