This year both runners Caitlyn Geode and Rachelle Rohrer, who are seniors, and Jebran Soto Martinez, who is a freshman, were new to the team. This was their first year participating in this sport, as well as the coach Holly Troiani. They have been set to make a difference in this team this year and try to recruit more people to join so they will be able to attend more meets. Due to the fact that they have only had 3 runners this season, they have not been able to attend most meets because you must have five runners to make a complete team. That then makes it hard for the runners to be able to participate themselves. Due to this, cross country has only had a few meets that they were able to compete at this season.
This year’s season started on August 25th, and so far we have the results for three meets. The meet on August 25th where Rachelle Rohrer placed 118th in the girl’s 5000-meter run with a score of 29:29.78. For the second meet on September 9th results showed Caitlyn Geode placed 131st in the girl’s 5000-meter race with a score of 51:00.00. And Jebran Martinez placed 158th in the boy’s 5000-meter race with a score of 30:49.60. It was said that Jebran replaced Rachelle in the first meet of the season since she was not able to be there, which was a kind act on his part. And their last meet of the season on September 26th, both girls ran. Rachelle Rohrer placed 159th in the 5000-meter run with a score of 33:45.80 and Caitlyn Goede placed 224th in the 5000-meter run with a score of 55:05.00.
Overall this year’s team still put in a lot of hard work and effort. Cross country is not an easy sport, they had to practice every day. Running around the school and other parks around the city. Hopefully, the team will build up in the next few years regarding having a new coach. It has been said that Coach Holly has been working to recruit some middle schoolers which would be a huge step for the program.
