The Arvada girl’s tennis team has had a great season this year so far. Starting with three wins in the beginning, some girls competing their very first games ever. So far they have had six games, winning three against Fort Lupton and Gateway both 6-1 and Englewood 5-2. They had three losses against Aurora Central with a score of 2-5, Skyview with 1-6, and Adam City, 2-4. They will compete against Jefferson and Thornton on Thursday and Friday, April 11th and 12th. That Friday being their senior night celebrating their only senior Kaitlyn. Following the Colorado league tournament on April 19th and 22nd. Ending the season off with a rescheduled game with Wellington on April 24th. Hopefully, they can win these next games ending off with a three-win streak.
Both the team and the coach, Olivia Andrew-Katarba, feel excited about the second half of the season. Coach has stated that she believes the girls will “compete well, being confident in their skills and having played so much already”. The team for sure did not expect to win their first games, but expectations have changed in an instant. Tennis is a very honest sport, there are no official refs, and it’s up to the players to make the right calls. In that case, the girls usually get along with other teams and talk regularly. The team doesn’t have any crossfire or rivalry with any other schools, they just compete and have fun. Which created a lot of trust and communication with the team. The team has bonded great over the past few weeks, having their jamming-to-music car rides as their common team bonding.
