History teacher Mr. Michelson and student body members have taken on a very challenging task this semester. They are taking all of the old artifacts out of the school museum and refurbishing its appearance after the controversy surrounding the harmful stereotypical native american mascots which district officials removed before Mr. Michelson took control of the project.
Mr. Michelson had worked on similar projects on his own for previous schools, he was perfect for the job. “Originally I was asked by our administration to see if I would be interested. It was like the end of last semester, so I agreed since I had done something similar in my old school, It wasn’t a class, but I had redesigned old trophy cases”
This project has shown these kids how to work as a team and persevere through their challenges together. Mr.Michealson has been a very great mentor letting all of these students have their own voice and letting them run this project.
When asked how this class prepares them for the world, Khadija Noor said, “It helps with creativity and advertising. You know, like if you are getting a job where you need to design something to get people more in-depth with a product.”
This class is helping kids set up their futures in a very artistic way that can help them to express themselves and find themselves in their own way. Students have most of the power in this class with the ability to choose what it is they are going to be buying for the redesign and how they want to design the museum. Michealson and his cheerful moods are helping us improve the school and show off its history one day at a time.
Michealson has helped to make this a very easy and fun project for these students, Chris Herron says, “It’s not a difficult class I would say it is a very good way to pretty much start your morning off too.”
Before spring break they were planning to accomplish getting the main wall of the museum fully cleared out and repainted so that they can start adding new things in. They are working hard every time they are able to get into the museum to be able to accomplish this task and have been making very great progress.
Even with delays, they are on track to finishing the project before the end of this semester and are very confident they will be able to. Chris Herron said “Definitely yes” when asked if he thought they were going to have enough time to complete this project.
Michaelson has made sure to be very thorough with this project just like how he did in his principal job at Rifle High school. Even though he’s never had the help of students with projects like these he is progressing very well. Michaelson says, “
During my time as principal at an old school, our trophy cases were an absolute mess, so I took that on to clean those up so that I could honor our alumni and our current students little did I know when I was doing that I would be teaching this class at Arvada High school.” \
He has been working very hard to make this the best experience for these few kids working on this project. With this being such a little class they are having to work extra hard to be able to meet their goals.
Michaelson says, “One of the big flaws about the current museum is that it’s missing a lot of things that have happened from 1997 to 2025. So we are going to try our best to fill the missing gaps of history that haven’t been filled, so we will have more recent things that show off our schools’ more recent history as well.”
They are very dedicated to making sure that this museum will be finished for our school. They are always working no matter what to make sure that our school can look better and help show off alumni and new students.
